Virginia W. Haley

November 11, 1918 — February 20, 2016

Virginia W. Haley, 97, of Owensboro passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016, in the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky, having spent up until the last days of her life in her home with the devoted care of her family. Virginia was born November 11, 1918 to the late Samuel Harmon and Martha Lynn Whitescarver in Taylortown, KY. Virginia was a graduate of Rochester High School. Following graduation, she moved to Owensboro with her sisters and worked at Ken-Rad and later as a licensed beautician. She was a stay-at-home mom to her six children for many years. After they were well into their responsible years, she again began working outside the home at Cox's Fabric. She then worked at S.W. Anderson's where she was integral to their Gift Ware and Art Needlework departments. With a constant smile on her face, she crocheted, knitted, needle pointed, cross stitched and quilted, her hands never idle. She was a member of the Mary Lou Phillips Sunday school class at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church and The Friends of the Children at the Mary Kendall Home.

Virginia was also preceded in death by her husband, James F. Haley; a son Joe F. Haley; her siblings Howard B. Whitescarver, Mary E. Whitescarver, Clara W. Taylor, Charles H. Whitescarver, and Augusta Bowling; nephews, Howard B. Whitescarver Jr and Bobby T. Lee; and a son-in-law Wilbur F. Lenhardt.

She is survived by her children Mary L. Lenhardt of Selah, WA, Barbara J. Haley of Owensboro, Janice S. Watson (Gene) of Evansville, J. Wayne Haley (Mary Craig) of Elizabethtown, and Donald K. Haley (Joni) of Owensboro; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
