Virginia Lucille "Sissy" Gower

Virginia Lucille “Sissy” Gower, 90, of Owensboro passed away Saturday, December 27, 2025, at her home with her family by her side. The Island, KY native was born July 7, 1935, to the late William Evermont “Mont” Jones and Maggie Jane Case Jones. Sissy graduated from McLean County High School with the class of 1953. She worked for the American Tobacco Co. at the cigar factory and then began serving families as a caregiver until she retired in 1975. Sissy also loved taking care of her grandkids and cooking for her loved ones. She was an excellent cook and some of her specialties were her fried apple pie, carrot cake, dressing, and bourbon balls.

In addition to her parents, Sissy was also preceded in death by her husband, Marion “Slim” Gower in 1987 and her siblings, Tom C. Jones, Viola Schindler, Mary Coakley, and John C. Jones.

Those left to cherish her memory include her three daughters, Joyce Jones of Glenville, Barbara Edge (Robert), and Debbie Gower, both of Owensboro; six grandchildren, Kim Castlen, Sherry Jones, Cathy Case (Jeff), Billy Jones (Cassie), Angela Boze, and Bradley Gower (Lauren); nine great grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with same day visitation from 11:30 am until 1:30 pm. Burial will be in the Calhoun Cemetery.
