Virginia Ruth Chapman, 91 of 1920 Freeman Avenue, Owensboro, died Friday, March 8, 2002 at Hermitage Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Hederson County, Kentucky on February 24, 1911 the daughter of Charlie and Drucilla Lightfoot Busby. Her husband, Joe Chapman, preceded her in death in 1956.
Mrs. Chapman retired from the teaching profession and as a state department of education supervisor. She was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church and Retired Teachers Association and was director of child welfare in Kentucky. She taught in Henderson for 15 years, was director of pupil personnel. Mrs. Chapman enjoyed traveling all the 50 states and Europe.
Survivors include a brother, Billie J. Busby, Sr. of Radcliff; five nephews, Robert T. Busby, Jr. of Bretwood, TN, Gilbert Lightfoot Busby, Jr. of Fairborn, OH, Charles Clayton Busby of Lexington, KY, Billie J. Busby of Charleston, IN and Bruce Ray Busby of Bowling Green, KY; two nieces, Virginia Louise Sigler of Henderson, KY and Tanya Sue Donahoo of Evansville; 17 great-nephews and great-nieces; and several great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2002 at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Dr. Les Chapman and Reverend Todd. Love. Burial will follow in Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson. Her family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2002 and after 9:00 a.m. Monday.
