Virginia Sue Brown Sublett

“Virginia” Sue Brown Sublett, 87, of Owensboro, KY passed away on Saturday August 22, 2026, at the Heartford House while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born August 26, 1938, in McLean County, to the late Goebel and Evlyn Kirkland Brown.

Sue began her nursing career at Owensboro Daviess County Hospital where she was instrumental in starting the first CCU unit. She spent many years on various stations of the hospital until 1984. In 1984 Sue joined Dr. Abshier at Owensboro Internal Medicine, until her retirement in 1999. She was a longtime member of Hall Street Baptist Church until she and her husband became members of Macedonia Baptist Church in 1990. In her free time, she enjoyed quilting and working in her garden and flowers at her home. Sue was known for her Sunday dinners which included some of her family’s favorites like her fried chicken, strawberry salad, orange juice cake, and her chocolate Godiva cake.

Sue’s love and joy for life was evident in every interaction she had. She loved her family and friends fiercely and cherished every moment with them. She will be remembered as a dedicated wife, mother, Nanny, sister, and great friend.

Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Donald Sublett; grandson, Justin Robbins; a brother, Gerald Brown; and sister, Marian Gatewood.

Sue is survived by her children, Greg Sublett and his wife, Karen, of Lexington and Susan Robbins Chapman and her husband, Tim, of Owensboro; grandchildren, Coty Robbins Horn (Brad), Elijah Sublett (Sarah), Madison Clark (Rudy), Seth Robbins, Austin Sublett, Ben Chapman, and Asha Reed (Jordan); great-grandchildren, Jackson, Connor, Jacob, Isabella, Augustus, Bentley, Aria, and Ellie; sister in law, Dorothy White (Brooks) of Alexander, VA; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Sue will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday August 29, 2026, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial to follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Friday from 3 until 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 until 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
