Virginia Sisk Bittel

Virginia Sisk Bittel, 80, of 4307 Peppermill Court, Owensboro, died Friday, July 25, 2003 at Owensboro Mercy Health System. Mrs. Bittel was born in Hopkins County, Kentucky on August 14, 1922 the daughter of Clint and Nellie Sisk. Her husband, Joseph R. Bittel, Sr., preceded her in death on May 11, 1979. A son, William Howell Bittel, also preceded her in death on February 4, 1997.

Mrs. Bittel graduated from Mortons High School in Hopkins County and graduated from Owensboro Daviess County Hospital Nursing School. Mrs. Bittel was a registered nurse/private duty and retired from Owensboro Daviess County Hospital in 1982. She was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church, ODCH School of Nursing Alumni and was in the U. S. Cadet Nurse Corps. during World War II. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Coomes of Philpot and Paula Bittel of Owensboro; two sons, Joseph R. Bittel, Jr. of Utica and Father Patrick Bittel of Whitesville; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at Immaculate Catholic Church, officiated by Father Patrick Bittel. Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2003 at Glenn Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
