Violet Ruth Stovall

April 15, 1925 — February 6, 2010

Violet Ruth Hunt Stovall, 84, of Owensboro, Ky., was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 6, 2010. Recently a resident of Riverside Manor Healthcare Center in Calhoun, Ky., she lived in Owensboro most of her life. She was born on April 15, 1925 in Graham, Ky., the daughter of John and Ruth Sumner Hunt. A loving and caring wife to her husband, mother to her children, and "Dootsie" to her grandchildren, she left us with many of life's precious lessons and especially a strong faith in our Lord. Formerly a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Owensboro, she served on several committees, was a past Sunday school teacher, youth leader, Deacon, and Elder. Presently she was a member at Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church in Owensboro and a member of their women's group. Retired from the Owensboro Public School System, she spent 19 years as an elementary teacher and librarian. There she taught much more than school curriculum and library skills. She shared her love of people and taught children how to respect and care for others. During World War II she worked for an aircraft defense plant in Louisville to support the war effort. While working for her teaching degree, she also worked as a cataloguer for the Kentucky Wesleyan College Library. She supported the Owensboro Marine Corps League, was active in the Retired Teachers Association, the Women's Club of Owensboro, Homemakers, was a Kentucky Colonel, member of the West Central Kentucky-Family Research Association, and served as a volunteer for the Owensboro Public School's Elementary Reading Program.

"Dootsie" enjoyed living life, loving and caring for her family, camping, working in her flower garden, all kinds of needlework and sewing, traveling, and reading, but most of all she loved helping and caring for others. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruth Hunt, two brothers, Phillip Hunt and Guy Hunt, two sisters, Lillian Grace Hunt and Gwynette Hunt Southard, and her husband and faithful soul mate for 61 years, Forrest "Smokey" Stovall on February 17, 2008.

Survivors include her son, Forrest Michael Stovall and wife Vickie of Owensboro, her daughter, Patricia Stovall Bosley and husband Mike of Owensboro, five grandchildren, Michael Stovall and wife Lisa of Owensboro, Letisha Stovall LeBlanc and husband Kenneth of Okmulgee, OK, Eran Bosley of Owensboro, Lt. Josh Bosley of the U. S. Army in Scofield Barracks, Hawaii, and Micah Bosley and wife Honoria of Chicago, IL, two great granddaughters, Emma Anne Stovall and Letessa Alynn LeBlanc, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, February 12, in the chapel of the Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday and after 8:30 A.M. Friday at the funeral home.
