Vincent Eugene Mattingly

July 12, 1918 — November 17, 2006

Vincent Eugene Mattingly, 88, of Owensboro, died Friday, November 17, 2006 at the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, Kentucky. The Daviess Co. native was born July 12, 1918 to the late Martin Spalding and Sarah Gertrude Bowlds Mattingly. Mr. Mattingly was a member of SS Joseph and Paul Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, was a highly decorated WW II Veteran, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the VFW, and a skilled designer and creator of furniture. In his spare time he loved to hunt, fish, and tend his garden.

Family members preceding him in death beside his parents include his daughter, Shirley Marie Sharp; his great-granddaughter, Lindsay Clements; and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary Flo Mattingly; his sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Karen Mattingly of Louisville, Mike and Sondra Mattingly of Philpot, and Perry Mattingly of Owensboro; his daughters and sons-in-law, Deanna and Joseph Mills of Owensboro, Janice and Marvin Clark of Sorgho, Martha Lois and Lynn Gary, of Owensboro, and Jack Sharp of Frankfort; his sisters and brother-in-law, Merici Millay, and Margaret and Charles B. Payne both of Owensboro, 14 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at SS Joseph and Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Carl McCarthy officiating. Entombment will immediately follow at Resurrection Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 20, 2006 and from 8:30 until 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers.
