Vincent Burch Hayden, Jr.
It’s with heavy hearts, we announce that Vincent Burch Hayden Jr. of Owensboro passed peacefully from this life on Thursday June 25th, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Vincent was born on July 1, 1937, in Daviess County, one of six children, to the late Vincent Burch Hayden Sr. and Alma Lewis (Clark) Hayden. Vince was of the Catholic faith and a lifelong member of St. Pius Tenth Catholic Church.
Vince loved God and family, and was a generous supporter of the Catholic Church, building many of the Parish Hall’s of the churches in the Diocese of Owensboro. He was fiercely loyal to family and friends and gave generously and discreetly to numerous people and causes near and dear to his heart.
He was an active businessman, benefactor, and entrepreneur. He started his first business, Hayden Construction Co., Inc. in 1959. In his early years he built several nursing homes in Kentucky and Indiana. He also built numerous Kwik Picks, a chain that later became The Pantry. He was one of the pioneers in developing the community’s fastest-growing retail, restaurant and residential areas on Kentucky 54; when he designed and built Villa Point Shopping Center in the 1980’s. His resume’ also includes a long list of design build projects; schools, churches, parish halls, grocery stores, convenience/ retail stores, strip malls, hotels, a distillery, and one residential subdivision, Fox Chase.
One of the biggest passions in Vince’s life was building. He loved breaking ground on new projects and took pride in the finished product. He especially enjoyed having several projects going on at the same time.
He owned and operated Hayden Construction Company Inc. for over 60 years and during that time, he developed several other business ventures including Hayden Development LLC. He remained active in the daily operation of Hayden Development LLC until his death. He was a proud Kentucky Colonel and served on many Boards of Directors and Nonprofits in the community.
Vince was an avid hunter and fisherman and took every opportunity to get out in the woods or out on the lake. He enjoyed cultivating roses and an array of plants and flowers. His backyard was a beautiful oasis of color that he enjoyed daily while sitting on his patio. He was an avid western fan, a big fan of John Wayne and spaghetti westerns. Vince also enjoyed reading and watching and talking about politics. He enjoyed sharing his political views with family, friends, and business associates.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children; Donna (Bobby) Howard of Reedsville, PA, Sara (Mike) Clark of Owensboro, Steve (Sandy) Hayden of Philpot, Janet (Ron) Jones of Lewisport, Denise (Rick) Isbill of Philpot and Patrick Hayden of Owensboro.
He leaves behind his beloved thirteen grandchildren; Dustin (Micki) Howard of Indianapolis, Lacey (Ryan) Niehaus of Indianapolis, Shawn Howard, Lauren (Paul) Westerfield, Kristen (Nick) Whittaker, Andrew Clark, and Seth (Tiffany) Hayden, Nathan (Bree) Hayden, Nicole (Ryan) Johnson, Rony (Erin) Jones, Chelsea and Amber Isbill, and Cash Hayden. He also leaves fourteen great grandchildren, all of the Owensboro area.
In addition to his parents, Vincent was proceeded in death by his first wife Laura Jean (Roby) Hayden and second wife Tamara (Borjesson) Hayden; two brothers; Larry R. Hayden Sr. and John Robert Hayden and one sister, Margaret A. (Peggy Hayden) Edge Wells. Vince has two brothers surviving, Martin J. Hayden (Joan) and Samuel J. Hayden, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
The Funeral Mass will be 10 AM Tuesday, July 7, at St. Pius Tenth Catholic Church with entombment following in Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 3 PM until 7 PM On Monday, July 6 with prayers at 6:30 PM and from 8:30 AM until 9:30 AM Tuesday July 7, all at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
