Vicki Short

August 10, 1955 — April 17, 2018

Vicki Lee Hobbs Short, 62, of Owensboro, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born August 10, 1955 in Winchester where growing up, she loved the family farm, the hills, and her horse. Graduating high school, she then went to technical college and then to Eastern Kentucky University, an amazing feat for a single mom growing up in deep Eastern Kentucky. She later moved to Owensboro in the 1990's to open a SCUBA shop (Dolphin Dive Center) with her husband. She also worked as a paralegal for the law firm, Moore, Malone, and Safreed until the death of her husband.

The pride of Vicki's life was her "Grandbabies". Her life and home were a homage to them and her family. Until grandkids, nothing came before her son. She gave him every opportunity possible: after school sports, summer camp, college, and faith in God. Her faith drove her, especially as she suffered many years with illnesses. Even on her worst days, she thanked God for the sunshine and asked for forgiveness because she prayed for help. She feared others suffered more somewhere and her motto in life was "kindness". She believed everyone should be more kind and that only kindness could heal our major problems. She also walked the walk by being kind to everyone.

Vicki passed as softly as she lived, in the arms of her son at the Heartford House. She had a pizza party with her grandkids the day before. Her last words were "I love you" to her son and best friend, the first time she had spoken in several days. For those of us who knew and will miss her, be kind and she will be with you.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Betty Joan Lewis Hobbs; and a brother, Timothy Hobbs.

Surviving are her son, Grant Short and wife Kendal; and four grandchildren, Bella, Lola, Harrison, and Amelia.

A Memorial service will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 27, at Trinity Episcopal Church with visitation beginning there at 12:00 P.M.
