Vernia June Grass

Vernia "Vern" June Grass, 88, of Owensboro, went to be with the Lord on May 30, 2015. Vernia was born on November 30, 1926 in Mackey IN to the late Donald and Gertha Austill Polk Higgs. Vern, as she was affectionately known, was a loving woman who spent her time raising a family and remained active in her churches as a pastor's wife. Her voice known for beautifully ringing out favorite hymns, even when hearing loss and Parkinson's made staying in harmony increasingly difficult. Spending time in the kitchen baking cookies with grandkids, working on quilts, making dolls and figuring out crossword puzzles was the way she enjoyed spending her time. She always had a kind word and a bright smile for the many visitors welcomed in her home. She was a caring woman who will be greatly missed by her family and community.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Robert E. Grass; and a granddaughter, Angela Michelle Westerfield.

Survivors include four daughters, Pam (Allen) Shouse, Beverly (George) Whitson, Brenda Grass, and Patti Westerfield; grandchildren, Julie (Brian) Ellis, Ginger (Charley) Hammock, Jeffrey (Stephanie) Shouse, Jennifer Shouse, Gregory (Wendy) Whitson, and Johnna (Jared) Lock; Becky Turner Porter played a big part in her life as an "adopted" granddaughter; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Marilyn Irvin, Margie Mundy, and Ester Crum, brother, Kenny Polk; and several nieces and nephews.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Western Kentucky or CrossPointe Baptist Church

Visitation will be from 9 am until 12 noon Tuesday June 2, 2015 at CrossPointe Baptist Church. The service will be 12 noon Tuesday at the church. Burial will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery. Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
