Verner Lucas, 89, of Owensboro, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, died January 15, 2007 at his home. Mr. Lucas was born September 13, 1917 in Manerva, West Virginia to the late Leonard and Minnie Clay Lucas. He was a WWII Marine Veteran who served in the Pacific Theatre, a recipient of the Purple Heart, a Westinghouse retiree, and while he resided in Ben Avon, PA he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Avalon, PA.

In addition to his parents, those preceding him in death include his wife, Grace Ann Lucas; and his son-in-law, Frederick Powers.

Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Elizabeth Powers of Owensboro, and Susan and Terry Tumey of Oklahoma City, OK, his son and daughter-in-law, James and Cynthia Lucas of Wichita, KS, his brother, Willard Lucas of Pittsburgh, PA, his sister, Wilda Carter of Hamlin, West Virginia; his grandchildren, Kimberly Varney of Hebbronville, TX, Stacy Ryan of Oklahoma City, OK, Shannon Benoit of Wichita, KS, and Shaun Lucas of Olathe, KS, and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2007 at Glenn Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Lambrich officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Resurrection Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 8:00 on Wednesday and again on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
