Mrs. Verna Ellis Vaughan, 98, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, in Owensboro. Born in Daviess County, a daughter of the late Tilden and Ella Bell Ellis, Mrs. Vaughan, graduated from Owensboro High School and attended Bethel College, was a member of First Baptist Church, joining in 1926, and the Gleaners Sunday school class, the Daughters of the American Revolution, past president of the Owensboro Womans Club, a founder of the Younger Womans Club, a former board member of the American Heart Association, and was a Kentucky Colonel. She and her husband, Carl B. Vaughan, who died in 1970, owned Baker-Vaughan Shoe Company.
Three nieces, Mary Hamblin (Mrs. H.K.) and Bette Youngman (Mrs. Dean), both of Owensboro, and Mrs. Lois Butler (Mrs. Don) of Bowling Green, great nieces Mary Alice Rockhold, Nancy Van Hooser, Vicky Schweickhardt, and great nephews D. A. Youngman, Bob Butler, and Lewis Hamblen, and several great-great-nieces and nephews survive her.
Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 11:30 until service time. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Kentucky Baptist Childrens Homes.
