Verna Elizabeth Shain

Verna Elizabeth Shain, 97, of 201 Holmes Drive, Owensboro, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Owensboro Place Nursing Facility. She was born in Daviess County, September 21, 1911 to the late John and Minnie (Alvey) Thompson. She was a member of Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church. She loved the Lord, and working in her flowers. She retired from Glenmore Distillary as a bottle inspector.

Her husband, James E. Shain , a daughter; Edna Merle Church, and a son; Charles Russell Church and sisters; Evelyn and Helen Thompson, and two grandchildren; Michael and Robert Rowan, all preceded her in death.


She is survived by a daughter; Mary Lou Sapp of Owensboro, grandchildren; Stephanie Graham of Wildwood, MO. and Dennis Church of Valencia , CA., great-granddaughter; Stephanie Adams, great-great-grandchildren; Megan and Matthew Adams, Calvin and Rayana Rowan, Mary B. and Ricky Mongomery, Hunter Graham, Jason (Stephanie) Rowan, nieces; Anna Custer, Mary Lois Montgomery, and dear friends; Charlotte Hancher of Mesa, AZ., and Percy Custer of Owenboro.


Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Christ Chapel, Owensboro Memorial Gardens, with Fr. Carl McCarthy officiating. Visitation will be Saturday after 9:30 a.m. at Glenn Funeral Home.
