Verna Kate Bowers, 88, of Owensboro, Kentucky passed away Saturday, June 16, 2007 at Owensboro Medical Health System. Mrs. Bowers was born, November 11, 1918 in Fayetteville, TN. Verna Kate graduated from Judson College in Marion, Al in 1938 and was a stewardess for American Airlines. She married Edward T. Bowers in 1946 and moved to Owensboro, KY, in 1948 where Ed was employed with Texas Gas Transmission. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, where she held various responsibilities including: assistant treasurer, deacon, organist, Sunday school teacher, and choir member. She was also active with the Cliff Hagan Boys Club, the Concert Association, Adult Literacy, The Help Office, The Wendell Foster Home, the Salvation Army and YMCA. Her husband, Edward T. Bowers, preceded her in death.
Verna Kate is survived by her son Tom Bowers (Diane) of Owensboro; two daughters, Barbara Bowers Royster (Newton) of High Point, NC and Laura Ann Bowers of Lexington; a niece, Pat Kinville of Crete, NB; her grandchildren, Kotty Royster Gray, Jenny Royster Massey, Chris Bowers and Meredith Bowers; and her great-grandchildren, Jaylen Massey, Hayden Massey and Saylor Gray.
Services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 3 until 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to First Presbyterian Church or the Salvation Army.
