Vergie Reed Simmons

October 26, 1920 — March 28, 2012

Vergie Reed Simmons, 91, of the Owensboro Carmel Home, , fell asleep in death on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 to await the Great Resurrection when Christ returns for His people. She was born in Indiana to the late Clyde and Chloe Crabbe Reed. Vergie was a retired registered nurse having worked at Owensboro-Daviess Co. Hospital for about 30 years and had served as a house supervisor. She also had taught for the Owensboro-Daviess Co. Hospital's School of Nursing until it closed. She graduated from Madison College, TN receiving her degree in nursing. Vergie was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and loved oil painting, playing the organ, cooking for family and friends, and was an excellent seamstress. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Simmons on August 3, 2002, a granddaughter, Kimberly Walls Hawkins-Palm on October 22, 2004, and a brother, Paul Reed in 2001.

Surviving are a son, James Lester Simmons of St. Petersburg, FL, two daughters, Kathryn Walls-(Terry) Chaffin of Rocklin, CA and Elaine (Bill) Fulton of Owensboro, five grandchildren, Tyler Fulton, Torrey Fulton, Jennifer Simmons, Raymond Simmons, Warren Simmons, five great grandchildren, and a brother, James Reed of Colorado.

Services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 2, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
