Vergie Anderson Hill, 89, of Owensboro, died Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Hillcrest Nursing Home. She was born in McCracken County to the late Aaron Henry and Lula (Ford) Anderson. She attended Murray State University, graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan, and received her masters from Western Kentucky University. Mrs. Hill was a longtime teacher in Owensboro City Schools and was a former Teacher of the Year. She was a dedicated member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, and taught Sunday School for over 20 years. She loved gardening and was an avid rose gardener, and a talented seamstress and knitter. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Her husband, Moss Carroll Hill preceded her in death in 1961, and a grandson, George Collignon Jr. in 1981.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Bobby) Ryals of Alabama, and Pam (George) Collignon of Owensboro, grandchildren, Andy (Ashley) Collignon of Brentwood, Tn. and Amy (Kevin) Gunn of St. Louis, MO., Frank (Anne) Leyden and Laura (Robert) Comer of Birmingham, AL., and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Dr. Glenn Sowards officiating. Burial will be in Mt .Kenton Cemetery in Paducah. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Saturday. The family has requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, they also wish to express their deep and sincere gratitude to the staff and employees of Hillcrest Nursing Home.
