Verdie Ree Stevens

Verdie Ree Stevens, 87, formerly of Owensboro, passed away on August 2, 2012 in Jacksonville, Florida.
She was born in Evansville, Indiana to the late William Lamar and Olivia Abel.

Mrs. Stevens had been a member of Saints Joseph and Paul Catholic Church and attended the Holy Family Catholic Church in Jacksonville. She was a loving and dedicated wife and mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert C. Stevens, in 2001; a sister, Becky Booker; brothers, Jack Abel, John Abel and George Bivins and most recently a son-in-law, Dr. Terry Tippin.

Mrs. Stevens is survived by a daughter, Connie Tippin of Amelia Island, FL; sons, Danny Stevens (Debbie) of Owensboro and Fred Stevens (Sandi) of Pompano Beach, FL; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Young of Rockport, IN and Nancy Bumm (Les) of Owensboro and a brother, Pat Abel (Carolyn) of Owensboro.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 25 at Saints Joseph and Paul Catholic Church, 609 E. Fourth Street, in Owensboro. Fr. Carl McCarthy will officiate. A private committal service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery.
