Vena Mae Stuart

Vena Helm Stuart, 95, formerly of 1324 Standish Place, Owensboro died on April 13, 2012.
She was born in Herbert, KY the daughter of the late Lone R. & Effie Westerfield Helm,
She was the youngest of 9 children; for most of her life she was a homemaker but worked a short time at General Electric and also as a teacher's aide at Tamarack Elementary School. Vena and her husband Don were charter members of Owensboro Christian Church where she taught the Lydia Sunday School Class for over 30 years, she was also a member of the Senior Ambassador Choir. She enjoyed reading, writing poetry, playing cards and was in several bridge clubs over the years, but most of all she was a loving mother and grandmother.
Vena was preceded in death by her husband, Don on August 15, 1981, a grandson, B arry Ratliff, great-granddaughter Rebecca Higdon, sons-in-law Michael Owsley Sr. and Lynn Allen.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty S. Allen of Owensboro, Jane S. Howard (Ron) of Utica, three sons, Ron E. Stuart (Mary Jane) of Louisville, James D. Stuart (Sharon) of Owensboro, Drexel B. Stuart (Jo) of Calhoun, fourteen grandchildren, Tammy Stuart, Brian Stuart, Laura Lamon, Steve Cowdrey, Matt Stuart, Amanda Ijames, David Stuart, Mark Stuart, Kelly Cochran, Jeff Ratliff, Tracy Ratliff, Jennifer Mattingly, Michael Owsley and Andrew Owsley; five step grandchildren Christy Schroader, Misty Edge, Marty Allen, Vicki Richardson and Brook Howard; 18 great grandchildren; 8 step-great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday April 17, 2012 at the Owensboro Christian Church with Shawn Green officiating with burial to follow in the Rosehill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday April 16, 2012 at the Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and from 9:00 AM until service time at the Owensboro Christian Church.
Memorial contributions can be made to an orphanage in Jacmel, Haiti c/o Hands and Feet Project P.O. Box 273 Calhoun, KY 42327, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
