Velva Marie Brown

Velva Marie Brown, 86, of 1617 Parrish Ct., passed away July 10, 2004, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center. She was born in Cloverport, Ky.and had been the owner of the Gem Cafor more than 35 years.with her husband Jack. She was well known for her homemade pies and biscuits made fresh early every morning. She had worked at General Electric for about a year. Together, they were avid bowlers. She enjoyed ceramics, painting, quilting, and gardening. She attended Temple Baptist Church for many years, and enjoyed spending time with her family most of all. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Unit 5 nurses and staff at Hillcrest for their compassionate care.

Surviving is her husband of 59 years, Alfred J. Jack Brown, three daughters, Linda Garrett of Lexington, Janet Brown of Charlotte, N.C., and Donna Marino (Pat) of Williamsburg, MI., a sister, Thelma Viola Handy of Owensboro, a sister-in-law Helen Winchester of Madisonville, a granddaughter, Teresa Beck and her husband Mike of Winchester, and one great grandson, Samuel Logan Beck, and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Owen & Ruth Goatley Pate, two brothers, Earl & Arthur Pate, two sisters, Ethel Limer & Geneva OReilly and a son-in-law, Leonard H. Garrett.

Services will be 11:30 A.M. Tuesday, July 13, at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:00-7:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
