Velma Nelson, 90, of 802 Wesleyan Park Drive, Owensboro, died Saturday, September 8, 2007 at Owensboro Medical Health System. She worked for Field Packing Company for 30 years until her retirement in 1982. She was a dedicated Christian and a faithful member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church for 50 years, where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Peggy Grossman Baptist Women On Mission. She was also a member of the Pilot Club of Owensboro for 29 years, and served as president on two occasions. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Lurlie Chinn in 1962.
Survivors include her daughter, Sue Trautwein of Owensboro, her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Susan and Bryan Campbell and great-granddaughter, Brittany Sue Campbell, all of Lexington. She is also survived by her church family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at Lewis Lane Baptist Church. Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home, and prior to the funeral Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Lewis Lane Baptist Church. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Organ Fund, Lewis Lane Baptist Church.
