Velma Lee Peak Hegdahl of Owensboro passed away Friday, June 15, 2007 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in Calhoun, Mrs. Hegdahl was the daughter of the late Vernon and Louella Logsdon Peak; was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church where she belonged to the United Methodist Women and the Mary Lou Phillips Sunday School Class; and was a member of the Womans Club of Owensboro, Fireside Homemakers Club, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She retired from the United States Treasury, Office of the Comptroller of Currency on July 25, 1975. Mrs. Hegdahl was 22 years old when she left home and began working for the government in 1943; she married her late husband, Gordon Leroy Hegdahl, on December 4, 1948 at the Mount Vernon Place Methodist Church in Washington, DC.
She is survived by brothers, Adrian Haynes Peak of Calhoun and Vernon Randolph (and his wife Margaret) Peak of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; several nieces and nephews, including David Peak of Owensboro; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Services are 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at Glenn Funeral Home followed by burial in Calhoun Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-6 P.M. on Monday and after 12:30 P.M. on Tuesday.
