Mrs. Vejbai Champshi Maru of Owensboro, KY moved on to her next life on Thursday July 16, 2009 at 11:10 pm at her home in Owensboro, KY. She was born in Bombay, India on May 28, 1923 to the Late Devkaben and Nagshi Buria
Her husband passed away at a very young age but she managed to raise six children while working hard in the fields and sewing clothes in a small village called Bidada in Kutch, India.
She lived her life graciously and with pride, while instilling great values in her children. During her lifetime she accomplished many goals and completed several religious milestones and performed many pilgrimages on foot covering thousands of miles throughout northern India. She kept a lifelong chauvihar (no food or drink after sunset) since the age of 20.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Hansraj and Usha Maru of Boston, MA, Jayanti and Jaya Maru of Norwalk, CT, Harakhchand and Neena Maru, Dr Mahendra and Nalini Maru of Owensboro, KY, Vasundhara and Jagdish Mamania of Bombay, India and Jyoti and Suresh Dedhia of Norwalk, CT. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Vivek-Tania, Dr.Sheela- Dr.Duncan Maru, Dr.Chintan, Priti -Dr. Dhiren Haria, Ashish- Nilam Maru, Dhenu- Dr.Mitesh Savla, Nimit, Paras, Dr.Ami, Avni, Dipti, Veer and great -grand-children Neev, Parth, Anand, Umed and Jaini. She also has left a large family including Brother and Sisters in India.
We will celebrate her life during visitation from 1:30 to 3:00 pm on Saturday July 18th 2009 at Glenn funeral home in Owensboro, KY, followed by prayers at the same place from 3:00 to 4:00 pm and cremation procession at 4:30 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or National Kidney Foundation.
