Vanita Sue Whitaker

Vanita “Sue” Whitaker, 69, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday June 26, 2026, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born on October 6, 1958, in Daviess County, to the late Ricel and Thelma Hayes Johnson.

Sue loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of Owensboro First United Baptist Church, enjoyed watching soap operas, Hallmark movies, and cooking shows on TV, and also listening to Elvis Presley and Reba McEntire.

Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Anthony “Tony” Whitaker Sr.; a sister, Ruby Young; and a brother, Charles Johnson.

Sue is survived by a daughter, Donna (Mike) Bristow; her son, Tony (Kennedy) Whitaker Jr; grandchildren, Anthony "Brian" Hoffman, Anthony "Garet" Whitaker, and her first granddaughter expected in about a month, Vivian Kate Whitaker; a great-grandson, Oliver Ray Whitaker; sisters, Geneva Howard and Juanita Johnson; and brothers, Billy and Paul Johnson.

The visitation for Sue will be held from 10 until 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday June 30, 2026, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Chapel Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Morgantown, KY.
