Van Reel, 79, of Owensboro, died Wednesday, January 03, 2007, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born March 22, 1927 to the late Enoch and Ella Mae Reel in Marion, NC. He was a Navy Veteran of WW II in which he served in Leyte Gulf, Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and also the Korean War. He was a member of Hall Street Baptist Church and owned and operated Star TV and Appliance Stores in Owensboro, Madisonville, KY, Evansville and Vincennes, IN from 1952 until 1986.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Virginia Barnes Reel; a son, Philip Reel and his wife, Kathy of Owensboro; a daughter, Teresa Protenic and her husband, Jim of Louisville; four grandchildren, Ashley and Kevin Reel, Christopher and Lara Protenic; a sister, Carrie Pendergrass of Hendersonville, NC.
Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, at Glenn Funeral Home with entombment in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 2:00 until 8:00 PM Friday and after 9:00 AM Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hall Street Baptist Church Activities Center, 1102 Hall Street, Owensboro, KY 42303.
