Tilman "T.O" Blackburn, 92, of 1819 Mohawk Drive, Owensboro, died Saturday, June 14, 2008 at his home. A native of Caldwell County, Kentucky he was born to the late John Kelly and Estella Taylor Blackburn. He graduated with a teaching degree from Western Kentucky University in 1939 and retired from teaching for Breckinridge County Schools. Mr. Blackburn was a member of First Baptist Church and of the Beacon Sunday School Class, and Senior Singers. He was an Army veteran of WWII and Korea, and retired as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army reserves.
He was preceded in death by a son; James William Blackburn in 1983 and a sister, Serena Parker in 2008.
Surviving is his wife of 66 years, Winnie Dean (Johnson) Blackburn, a daughter Janet Blackburn of Paducah and her husband Charles Hill, a sister ; and Phoebe Beasley of Ahoskie, N.C., two grandchildren; Scott Blackburn and wife Alice of Louisville, KY., Julie Blackburn and husband Paul Nowaki of Lexington, KY, and two great-grandchildren; Mark and Mary Beth Blackburn, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Glenn Funeral Home with Dr. Paul Strahan officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice Association Inc. Memorial Fund.
