Thurman Royal Bennett, Jr., 79, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born in Livermore, Kentucky to the late Thurman R. Bennett, Sr. and Bertha Ethel Long Bennett.
Mr. Bennett was a U.S. Navy Veteran and retired from the Crounse Corporation after serving as a barge cook for 27 years. He was a U.K. Basketball fan who enjoyed fishing, dancing, NASCAR, reading, and spent numerous years painting and doing yard work for others.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 11 years, Ethel Tomes Bennett in 1969; a son, Stephen Troy Bennett; sisters, Hazel Eubanks and Jewell Richards; and brothers, John, Ray and Edward "Bully" Bennett.
Mr. Bennett is survived by his fiancé, Anna Allen; daughters, Donna Hagerman and her husband, Bruce and Sabrina Bennett, both of Owensboro; grandsons, Justin and Cody Hagerman, Joshua Bennett, James and Jacob Bowen; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Frances "Bill" Hardison, Joan Bartlett and Faye Dunn; and the extended family of his fiancé, Anna.
The service will be at 2:00 Saturday, March 26 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with visitation from 10 AM until the time of service. Burial will be at Calhoun Cemetery.
