Thomas Ronald “Ron” Turner, 82, of Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at the Heartford House while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born June 29, 1941, in Dayton, TN, to the late John Thomas Alvin Turner and Marie Roberts Turner. Ron was a 1959 graduate of Rhea County High School and attended Nashville Auto Diesel College. He served two years as a SGT in the United States Army as Military Police Officer at Ft. McPherson in Atlanta, GA. Ron retired from General Electric Small Motors after 31 years of service, working in a management supervisory position and later as a cost analyst.
Ron enjoyed making wine, showing his 1955 Oldsmobile at local car shows, restoring his 1946 Chevy truck and his 1946 M Farmall tractor, and enjoyed watching UK basketball. He has a lifetime passion for music, band, and orchestra, and had a love of waterskiing, boating and coaching youth sports.
Most of all, Ron loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as “granddaddy”.
Ron is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sherry Roberts Turner; two sons, Ben (Ashley) Turner and Tyler (Katie) Jewell; 6 grandchildren, Landon, Annalee, Lesley, Will, Sarah, and Laura; a sister, Anita Turner Kinslow, along with his nephews, Carlton (Pam) Kinslow and Brian Kinslow; a favorite great aunt, Jane Bruce; and many cousins, and great nieces and great nephews.
The funeral service for Mr. Turner will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Ben Turner officiating. Burial to follow at Christ Chapel in Owensboro Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Friday from 3 until 7 p.m., and also on Saturday from noon until the time of the service.
