Thomas L. Payne, 89, of Owensboro, passed away June 25, 2017 while in the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born November 7, 1927 to the late Frank and Bennie Payne. Thomas was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. He retired from Green River Steel in 1990 as a Machinist. Thomas enjoyed auto racing, NASCAR, crosswords, cooking and loved spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard J. Payne; brother, James E. Payne; sisters, Martine Ebelhar, Magdalene Clements and Hilda Kopp Wheeler.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Martha Bumm Payne; sons, Stephen (Beverly) Payne, Mark Payne; daughters, Shelia Payne, Tina (Lewis) Mattingly; grandchildren, Elizabeth Eaves, Aaron Payne, Zachary Payne, Amber Mattingly, Cole Mattingly and a special grandchild, Drake; great-grandchildren, Stephen Eaves and William Eaves; sister, Mary Crighton and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with Fr. Mike Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Prayers will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.
