Thomas Randall Murphy

Thomas Randall Murphy, 69, of Owensboro, passed away on October 20, 2023, following a courageous battle with cancer. Tom, known as Randy to his family, was born in Owensboro, KY, at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital on August 23, 1954, as the youngest of six children, to the late Thomas Yewell Murphy and Imelda Hicks Murphy. He was a 1972 Daviess County High School graduate and went on to enjoy a long career at DART Polymers, from which he recently retired.

A lifelong Yankees fan, Tom will always be remembered in his signature Yankees cap. A true numbers enthusiast, he began his mornings completing even the most challenging Sudoku puzzles. His barbecue expertise was widely celebrated, and both friends and family never missed a chance to taste his legendary ribs. Beyond the grill, Tom enjoyed making homemade ice cream, which he generously shared with neighbors each summer for years. Tom was always known for his green thumb. He was most happy working on his lush, manicured lawn and landscaped beds. We all hope Heaven's TV lineup includes the INSP channel because he never missed an episode of Gunsmoke.

Above all, Tom will be remembered most for his endless love for his family. He cherished his daily conversations with his siblings and held them close to his heart. The moments he spent with his daughter and grandchildren were equally precious, creating memories that will be forever treasured. He will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Murphy, and sister, Joan Froehlich.

Tom is survived by three sisters, Faye Millay, Doris Blandford, and Benita Martin, and brother-in-law, Paul Martin; daughter, Renée Lam, and husband Rhys; granddaughters, Alice and Nora; beloved poodle Lucy and grand-dog Murphy, and a large extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

A gathering time for Mr. Murphy's family and friends will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday, October 27, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, with prayers conducted by Fr. Suneesh Mathew at 5:30 p.m.

The family has asked for expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to Spirit's Homestretch, Inc.  Senior Dog Sanctuary 501c3, 524 East 27th Street, Owensboro, KY 42303.
