Thomas Lee Henning, 97, of Owensboro, passed away Thursday, August 17 at the Oakwood Health Campus. Mr. Henning was born December 31, 1919 in Daviess County to the late Thomas Elmer Henning and Martha Sue "Mattie" Blanford Henning. Tom loved to take his family camping and travel around Kentucky and other parts of the country. He actually helped dig the footers for the Green River Steel plant and then worked there as a crane operator before retiring after 29 years. He was a very humble man who quietly served his family and friends. Tom was a fan of UK basketball and St. Louis Cardinals baseball.
Mr. Henning also was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Nancy Roberts Henning in 2014.
Those left to cherish his memory include his two daughters, Nancy Hogan of Chesterfield, Missouri and Carma Hogue and husband Destin of Waldorf Maryland; son, Phillip Henning and wife Judith of Lexington; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; sister, Jean DuPre of Tell City; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express special thanks to his niece, Martha DuPre of Tell City.
The service will be noon Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and after 11:00 AM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to help maintain the Greenbelt and riverfront parks of Owensboro.
