Thomas Durwood Demarest

October 24, 1919 — January 27, 2004

Thomas Durwood Demarest, 84, of Owensboro, died Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born October 24, 1919, to the late Charles F. and Mary Cooper Demarest in McLean County. He was a member of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church. A graduate of Daviess County High School and Owensboro Business College, and was retired from General Electric after 47 years where he held various managerial positions. For years he owned and operated Choctaw Ridge Antiques on Hwy 54 East. He enjoyed collecting and refinishing antiques, especially trunks.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Crystola Cummings Demarest, a step-son, Carl Lee Head and three brothers, Forrest, Wallace and Paul Demarest.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Smeathers Demarest, two step-sons and their wives, Joseph Leo and Peggy Head, and Stephen and Rita Smeathers, all of Owensboro, six step-grandsons, David Head, John Lumea, Bradley Head, Stanley Head, Alex and Nathan Smeathers, four step-great grandchildren, and one brother, Phillip Teet Demarest of Owensboro

Services will be 1:00 PM Friday, January 30, 2004 at Glenn Funeral Home, with entombment in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 3:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday, January 29, 2004 and after 11:00 AM Friday at the funeral home.
