Thomas Herman Coomes, Sr., 81, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2010. Born in Daviess County on June 28, 1929; he was the son of the late Joseph Herman and Mary Drusie Clark Coomes; was a member of St Stephen Cathedral; and was self-employed in both the auto and real estate businesses. Mr. Coomes also had volunteered at the River Park Center and had raised horses. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Coomes in 2000 and a sister, Mary Ruth Coomes.

Surviving are sons, Thomas Coomes, Jr. and his wife Lewann of Cleveland, TN and Bruce Coomes of Owensboro; a step-son, Jerry Baker and his wife Mary of New Albany, IN; grandchildren, Arina Coomes, Danaly Coomes, Alea Coomes, Jeremy Coomes, and Caleb Coomes; a step-grandson, Jason Baker; sisters, Joyce Alvey of Tell City and Jane Rowland of Louisville; and brothers, Joseph "Bucky" Coomes and his wife Suzanne, Ronald Coomes and his wife Dorothy, and Donald Coomes all of Owensboro.

Services are 10 a.m. Saturday, January 1, 2011 in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Father John Vaughan officiating followed by burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on Friday and after 9 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home where prayers will be said at 6:30 pm. On Friday evening.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St Stephen Cathedral.
