Therese M. Higdon, 85, of Owensboro, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born November 2, 1930 in Daviess County to the late Hilary and Emma May Montgomery. Along with her husband Hugh, Mrs. Higdon was a founding member of St. Pius X Catholic Church where she received the Sophia Award for her faithful stewardship and volunteer work. She and Hugh also served as volunteers for St. Vincent de Paul and River Park Center. Therese enjoyed exercising at the Hines Center as well as flowers, gardening, traveling and making her famous peanut brittle.
Mrs. Higdon was preceded in death by an infant son, Lynn Hugh Higdon; infant great-granddaughter, Ava Jane Morris; sisters, Catherine Pickrell and Virginia Manion; and brother, Vincent C. Montgomery.
Mrs. Higdon is survived by her husband of 65 years, Hugh Higdon; children, Jeanie Weedman and husband, Blair of Gallatin, TN, Sharon McPherson and husband, Bob of Owensboro, Brian Higdon and wife, Inna of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Jason McPherson and wife, Danielle of Stanley, Sara Weedman of Nashville, TN, Natalie Morris and husband, Dustin of Owensboro, Krista Sensing and husband, Madison of Cordova, TN, Julia Clark and husband, Mat of Mt. Juliet , TN, and Illya Higdon of Jacksonville, FL; great-grandchildren, Ady, Hayden, and Kate McPherson and Jack, Emma, and Luke Morris; sisters, Sr. Marie Montgomery, OSU of Mt. Saint Joseph and Sr. Dorthea Montgomery, RSM of Nashville, TN; brother, John Montgomery and wife, Barbara of Owensboro.
The funeral mass will be 10 AM Tuesday, May 3 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Fr. Tom Buckman officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 until 8 PM, with prayers at 7:30, and Tuesday after 9:00 AM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
