Maple Mount Sister Theresa Marie Wilkerson, 89, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died July 27th at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 69th year of religious life. She was a native of Owensboro, born Mary Louise Wilkerson, the daughter of the late James Wallace and Earmena Catherine Hay Wilkerson.
Sister Theresa Marie was an outgoing and caring person, who loved to share her gift of singing. An educator for 37 years, she taught at St. William School, Knottsville (1962-67), Trinity High School, Whitesville (1969-70), Owensboro Catholic High School (1970-73), and Mount Saint Joseph Academy, Maple Mount (1973-80). She also taught in the Archdiocese of Louisville and in Nebraska and Missouri. She was Director of Refugees for the Diocese of Owensboro (1980-94), parish minister at St. Stephen Cathedral (1987-97), and chaplain (1994-96) and Eucharistic minister (1994-2004) at Owensboro Daviess County Hospital and Owensboro Medical Health System.
Survivors include two brothers, Robert Louis, and John Owen Wilkerson, both of Owensboro; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Wilkerson of Kankakee, IL; nieces and nephews, and the members of her religious community.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 30, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Wednesday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.
