Thelma June Winkleman, 86, of Beaver Dam, passed away in her home to be with her departed family and the Lord at 11 p.m. on July 10, 2026. Born March 17, 1940, in Harrisburg, Illinois, to the late Willie and Thelma Dee (Penrod) Stone, June married her husband, Darold Winkleman, on Feb. 14, 1959. Together, they spent 56 wonderful years until his untimely passing on March 1, 2015.
During her time on Earth, she was crowned Miss Saline County in Harrisburg, Illinois in 1958, had a son, Donald Winkleman, and was the pillar of her family. To some, she was more than just a branch on the family tree or an ancestry title. She was a mother to those who had none, a grandmother to those who needed one, an unselfish soul who put her friends’ and family’s wants and needs ahead of her own, and a comforting spirit and guide to the injured and lost. Those who think about her will see the daffodils bloom in the Spring, and those who knew her will remember her generosity in life as being precious in the Lord.
As a child, she loved playing in the dirt, which led her to a lifelong love of gardening. Digging in the soil, planting seeds and watching her hard work blossom into a garden alive with colorful flowers was one of her greatest joys in life. She loved gardening so much that she became a Master Gardner with the Green River Area Master Gardner Association in Owensboro and volunteered her time beautifying a number of gardens in the area. The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for giving June the extra care, compassion, and comfort she needed during her final moments.
In addition to her parents and husband, Darold, June was preceded in death by her siblings, James Stone, Alberta Wright, Wanda Reed, Naomi Rogers, Billy Stone, Ann Hinant, Marilyn Kay Browning.
June is survived by her son, Donald Winkleman (Kecia) of Calhoun; grandchildren Devinn Winkleman of Beaver Dam, Dejha Weathers (Jim) of Madison, Alabama, and David Winkleman (Paulina), Jalen Winkleman (Resse Hardin), and Drayson Winkleman, all of Calhoun; great-grandchildren Conner, Hudson and Juliet Weathers of Madison, Alabama, and Dakota Winkleman and Dean Hardin of Calhoun; sister Cindy Messamore of Harrisburg, Illinois; brother Bobby Stone of Carrier Mills, Illinois; along with many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be no services. June will be laid to rest with her husband on the sunny side of a hill, amongst a drift of daffodils.
