Thelma Mae Askins Simon

September 12, 1920 — September 16, 2001

Thelma Mae Askins ''Granny'' Simon, 81, died Sunday, September 16, 2001 at her home. The Ohio County native was a member of SS Joseph and Paul Catholic Church; enjoyed her family, her church work and bird watching. She was the recipient of the 1999 Sophia Award as the outstanding Senior Citizen Member of the Diocese Committee on Aging and was instrumental in establishing the tradition of bereavement dinners at SS Joseph and Paul.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence ''Dutch'' Simon, Sr. in 1966; a son Michael Simon, Sr. in 1968; a daughter, Sandra Simon in 1952; and her parents, Roscoe Daniel and Mary T. Wimsatt Askins.

Survivors include three sons, Clarence Simon,Jr. and Michael Simon, Jr. of Owensboro and Richard Simon of San Fransisco; three daughters, Janice Davis and Alicia Wells of Owensboro and Phyllis Duel of Utica; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lula Clark of Hartford and Pauline Stallings of Owensboro.

Funeral services are noon Wednesday at SS Joseph and Paul Catholic Church with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Firends may call at the Glenn Funeral Home from 12 noon to 8 P.M. on Tuesday and after 9 A.M. on Wednesday. Prayers will be said at 7 P.M. on Tuesday.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the SS Joseph and Paul Bereavement Committee.
