Thelma Charlene Johnson

Thelma Charlene Johnson, 83, of Philpot, went to be with her heavenly Father, our Lord, and her loved ones who has gone before, on Tuesday, October 6, 2009. She was born September 10, 1926 to the late Charles and Ruby Jones Hayes in Butler County. She was a member of Owensboro First United Baptist Church and a loving mother. She enjoyed working in her garden and growing flowers and being with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ricel Johnson on June 12, 1986, and a sister, Arlene Allen and a brother, Raymond Hayes.

Survivors include her three sons; Charlie Johnson and his wife, Angie of Whitesville, Billy Johnson and his wife, Liz of Utica, Paul Johnson and his wife, Jane of Hartford; four daughters, Geneva Howard and her husband, Joe of Whitesville, Ruby Young and her husband, Jerry of Olaton, Sue Whitaker and her husband, Tony of Whitesville, Juanita Fortner of Owensboro; eighteen grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jimmy Hayes of Louisville, and Buddy Hayes of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Zelma Ross of Louisville, and Betty Patterson of Shepherdsville.

Services will be 1:00 PM Friday, at Chapel Union Baptist Church in Butler County, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, at Glenn Funeral Home, with visitation on Friday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301.
