Thelma Naomi Good

Thelma Naomi Best Good, 86, of Owensboro, answered the call and went to be with her Savior and Lord on Friday, April 19, 2024. She was born in Evansville, Indiana on January 21, 1938, to the late Ola Belle Hancock Best and Henry Herbert “Ted” Best. 

Thelma was a graduate of Daviess County High School. She also attended Murray State University for her nurses training. 

She then made what she often referred to as her “Final Emancipation from Home” by moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado. There she began her 45-year nursing career at the Air Force Academy Hospital. It was there in Colorado Springs where she met and married Dorsey Good, and they had two sons, Dorsey Jr and Jeff, before returning to the Owensboro/Daviess County area in 1968. She then went on to work as a nurse with Daviess County Hospital and finished her nursing career as a forensic nurse for the State of Kentucky. 

Thelma spent her life dedicated to God, her family, and many others she came to know along the way. She was a shining example of independence, strength, and God’s love. Whether it was raising two boys as a single mother, showering a grandchild with love, or simply visiting a friend, she put everything she had into every situation and let God’s love show through it all. She was a member of the JOY Sunday School class at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and spent many hours visiting with shut-ins and serving others while spreading the love of Jesus. She leaves behind a legacy of hard work and an enduring example of a life lived with her biblical purpose and devotion. 

Thelma was exceptionally proud of her sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her cousins and other family members. Her free time was spent landscaping and enjoying her beautiful flowering plants. 

She was preceded in death by brothers, James Alvey Leisure and Timothy Milton Best; her sister, Beverly Ann Best Foster (James Richard); nephews, Jimmy and Ricky Leisure; and former spouse Dorsey H Good, Sr.  

She is survived by sons, Dorsey Jr of Bedford, Kentucky; Jeff Good of Hoover, Alabama; grandchildren, Emily Brooke Layfield (Nathan) of Phoenix, Arizona, Annie Michelle Brunk (Jacob) of Birmingham, Alabama, Jeffrey Tyler Good (Holly) of Odenville, Alabama, Lauren Nicole Good, Caleb Dorsey Good, Savannah Lynn Good, and Abigail Grace Good, all of Lawrenceburg; great grandchildren, Abigail, Sam, Silas, Cash, and Carter; sister-in-law, Carolyn Best of Glasgow; and a host of other loved ones and friends. 

The funeral service will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 27 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. The burial will follow in the church cemetery at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The visitation will be Friday, April 26 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation on Saturday will be from 9:00 am until the time of the service.
