Thelma Kassinger Flener, 86, of Owensboro passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013. Mrs. Flener was born in Livermore, KY, one of 9 children of the late William Virgil and Ora Gray Kassinger. She moved to Owensboro to work with General Electric and then became a hairdresser and partner in the Joli Beauty Salon. Mrs. Flener was a member of Breckenridge Street United Methodist Church. Her many interests included crafts, home dcor, crocheting, sewing, and painting. Among the ways her skills were put to use was in sewing her children's clothes, including ties for her son.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond A. Flener in 2008 and by 7 of her brothers and sisters.
Her survivors include her son, Donald Ray (Jenny) Flener and her daughter, Rebecca Ann Alsup, all of Owensboro; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and her half-brother, Mike Kassinger.
The funeral service for Mrs. Flener will be at 12:00 noon Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the memorial fund of Breckenridge Street United Methodist Church.
