Thelma M. Bivens

Thelma M. Bivens, 71, of Owensboro died on August 20, 2013 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born in Trigg County to the late Roy Vernon and Flora Bell Downing.

She was a graduate of Draughon's Business College. Thelma had a career in banking that lasted more than 46 years with what is presently U.S. Bank. At retirement she was serving as a bank officer. Despite this career she was more accurately defined as a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and wife of 52 years to Don Bivens who passed away in 2012.

Thelma was a longtime member of Third Baptist Church and served on the Owensboro Dance Theatre Board of Directors.

She and her late husband were world travelers, having visited 34 foreign countries. One of her lasting legacies will be the gift of world travel with her children and grandchildren who accompanied her and Don on several occasions.

She is survived by her children, Dayna (Dan) Smith and Matthew (Jackie) Bivens, of Owensboro; grandchildren, Andrew, Erin, Allie, Ethan and Miranda; great-grandchildren, Jaxton and Ashlynn; and sisters, Judy Andersson, Brenda Irvan and Sharon Sipes.

The funeral service will be held at 9:00 AM on Friday, August 23 at Third Baptist Church. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3-7 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and on Friday after 8:30 AM at Third Baptist Church. Dr. James K. Byrd will officiate and entombment will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
