Talmage C. "Ted" Bennett, 89, of Anderson, passed away May 5, 2009 at Community Northview Care Center.
He was born October 25, 1919 in Beaver Dam, KY, the son of Eckles and Elizabeth (Stevens) Bennett. He was a graduate of Beaver Dam High School and resided in Anderson for many years. He owned and operated Halford Street Market for 27 years.
Ted was a member of the 5th Street United Methodist Church, Travelers Protective Association and American Legion of Lapel. He served with the US Navy during WWII and was the secretary treasurer of the Sportsman Conservation Club.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Bennett, whom he married on July 31, 1943; son, Thomas (wife, Jodi) Bennett of Anderson; daughter, Judy (husband, Roy) Clark of Georgetown, KY; three grandchildren, Julie Bennett of Anderson, Joshua Clark of Moseley, VA and Brian Clark of Bossier City, LA; two step grandchildren, Andy Castor of Salt Lake City, UT and Aaron Castor of Streamwood, IL; four great grandchildren; and a brother, Rev. Charles (wife, Doris) Bennett of Owensboro, KY.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Hableich and Clara Black; and brothers, Alva Bennett, Delmar Bennett and Calvin Bennett.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Bakdash and the staff of Community Northview for their kindness and care of our family.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home with Pastor Donna Ward officiating. Burial will be at Brookside Cemetery in Lapel where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 266.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Brown-Butz-Diedring funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the 5th Street United Methodist Church in Anderson, IN.
