Sylvia Faye Hamilton

Sylvia Faye Hamilton, 87, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born in Owensboro to the late Vigil Hoover Hester, Sr. and Margaret Lucille Sublett Hester. 

Mrs. Hamilton was a 1955 graduate of Catholic High, making her part of the first graduating class able to complete all four years in the recently expanded school. She worked at General Electric for several years before becoming more focused on the family. Sylvia was a charter member of St. Pius the Tenth Catholic Church and a member of T.O.P.S. for more than forty years. She enjoyed camping, knitting, sewing, gardening, canning and flowers. Most of all she treasured time with family, especially with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Terry D. Hamilton in 2022 and a sister, Nancy Jo Bickett.

Sylvia is survived by her husband of 65 years, Wm. Donald Hamilton; daughters, Vickie Hagan (Bill), Kim Johnson (Jeff) and Shelly Hamilton; grandchildren, Elijah, Isaiah and Madalyn Hagan, Jesse Hamilton, Cassie Harley, Samuel and Cambron Johnson, Kendall Lashbrook and Cheyenne Merimee; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathy M. Ward; and a brother, Virgil Hoover Hester, Jr.

The funeral Mass will be at 1:00 PM, Monday, April 15 at St. Pius the Tenth Catholic Church. Visitation will be at church Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of Mass. Entombment will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Care by Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
