Susan Reed Acton

Susan Reed Acton, 71, of Owensboro, passed away Friday, September 12, 2025, at Chautauqua Health and Rehabilitation. She was born October 8, 1953, in Owensboro, Kentucky to the late Hugh Allen Reed and LaQuetta Joyce Hinton (William Hershel Hinton).

She was a graduate of Owensboro High School, and received her Associates Degree from Kentucky State University, where she ran track. Susan loved her family greatly and lived for her grandchildren. She was sought out by many and known in town as "Mechanicsville Mom" as she took care of all the children she came across. Mrs. Acton was a quiet woman, but not afraid to speak her mind when the time came. As a member of the Pleasant Point Baptist Church, Susan loved singing in the choir, helping at youth church, and the being on the usher board.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Steven Jordan, Wilbur Hinton, Darryl Hunter, and Neal Richard Reed, along with niece Kelly Board and nephew Andre Palmer.

Mrs. Acton is survived by her husband of 39 years, Jeffrey: children, Neal Reed, Stephen Reed (NuNu) and JaMarcia (Marcia) Acton: siblings, Johnnie Mae Hinton, Marjorie Kay Davis (Robert), William H. "Rippo" Hinton III (LaVern), David Hinton, Barbara Hinton, and Kevin Hunter; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as a city full of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m.
