Surendar C. Malani, MD, 65, of Owensboro passed away peacefully on Thursday at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born in Bombay, India to the late Mr. Chetan D. and Mrs. Hari C. Malani.
Dr. Malani was a graduate of Grant Medical College and New York University where he earned his degree in Medicine. He most recently served as a Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist at River Valley Behavioral Health. He was previously a plastic surgeon and also worked in forensic psychiatry at Bellevue Hospital while living in Manhattan. Dr. Malani was a member of numerous medical associations.
Dr. Malani was of the Hindu faith. In his younger years, he was a model and aspiring actor. He enjoyed Bollywood films and was an avid tennis fan. He was a very adventurous person and had a contagious personality.
Dr. Malani was preceded in death by a sister, Maya Kripalani.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Vanita Malani; daughters, Priya Malani (husband, Rob Kovalesky), Nisha Malani (Todd Goldberg) and Sonia Malani, all of New York City; a brother, Gulu Malani (Vinita); a sister, Bina Mirchandani (Vijay); a brother-in-law, Sahib Kripalani, all of Bombay, India; and nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 10, from 3 until 8 PM with a service at 7 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Other private services will be held.
