Steven “Steve” Joseph Church, 63, of Owensboro, passed away June 3, 2025. He was born in Owensboro on February 4, 1962, to the late Joseph Arvel and Emma Jean Church. Steve was a larger-than-life character—a gruff teddy bear with a heart as big as his personality. For over 30 years, he proudly owned Church's Septic and Dozer Service, where he worked hard each and every day to provide his family with the best life possible. A true outdoorsman, he loved fishing and spending time at the lake, boating and relaxing after a long work week. He was an avid hunter and loved passing along his passion for it to his kids and grandkids. Steve enjoyed spending evenings out on the front porch with his wife, kids, and porch full of dogs, watching his grandkids romp and play in the front yard. His grandkids were his absolute pride and joy. If he wasn't with family, working, or in the woods, he was probably with one of his lifelong friends or checking his cattle at Gatewood.
Steve didn't know a stranger. He loved to talk and cut up with just about anyone. He grew up in Philpot, where he developed his love for baseball. That love transformed into 20 years of coaching girls’ softball where he touched the lives of so many. He taught his daughters the importance of independence and always instilled in them the values of hard work and perseverance and to embrace life with confidence.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Johnny Church and Allen Church.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Crowe Church; daughters, Misty Church, Holly Church Mayfield, Katie Church (Jonathan Bloniarz), and Cassie Boehman (Logan); grandchildren, Andrew, Chase, Michael, Maya, Cameron, Emma Jo, Jamison, Collin, Vincent, Jaxston, Hudson, Gracelyn, Raylan and Stetson; great-grandchildren, Brayleigh and Lyla Lou; siblings, Rhonda McCain, Susan Floyd (Jackie) and Karen Arnold, along with nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be 12:00 p.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday and after 10:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
