Steve B. Wahler, 47, of Owensboro, passed away Monday, October 9, 2017 in Gulf Shores, Alabama. He was born April 17, 1970 to the late George B. Wahler and Phyllis Henderson.
Steve was a 1988 graduate of Daviess County High School where he played soccer and baseball. He continued his education at Western Kentucky University where he earned a B.S. in computer science.
Steve spent 23 years working at Messenger-Inquirer, including 18 years as I.T. Manager. He was a very dedicated employee and his expertise was a critical part of the business. Steve was a life-long and active member of First General Baptist where he was a key part of the sound and technology. Steve was an exemplary husband, father, son and uncle. He coached his son, Brandon's basketball team and coached his daughter, Ashley's soccer team as well. Steve was an avid boater and loved vacationing with his family at the beach and lakes. Golfing with his son, Brandon and his great nephew, Ethan Bartos was one of his greatest passions. Steve was a classic car enthusiast and especially enjoyed his 1968 Ford Mustang. He had a great sense of humor and entertained his friends and family with his jokes and stories. Steve also enjoyed listening to classic rock music and watching UK basketball. He will be loved and missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his father, George B. Wahler in 1997; his maternal grandmother, Violet Love in 1988; paternal grandparents, George M. and Margaret Wahler; and uncle, Jeff Wahler.
Steve is survived by his wife of 19 years, Tami Bartos Wahler; their children, Ashley and Brandon; and his mother, Phyllis Henderson (Larry) of Owensboro. He was especially close to his grandparents, including his maternal grandfather, Fred Love. Steve is also survived by his in-laws, Bill and Sue Bartos of Caneyville, KY; aunts, Kaye Wahler-Hall and Mary Harrington of Owensboro, Carol Chapman (Ken) of Bowling Green, KY; uncle, Barry Wahler (Paula) of Owensboro; a close group of brothers and sisters-in-law; many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The service will be 12 noon, Monday, October 16 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Rev. Larry Shadowen will officiate. Visitation will be 2-6 PM Sunday and from 10AM until service time on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Philpot.
