Steve Tong Sr.

Steve Tong Sr., 75, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. The Daviess County native was born March 30, 1950, as one of seven children to the late Charles William “C.W.” Tong and Francis Bernadine Payne Tong. Steve attended Catholic grade schools and Owensboro High School. He was a brick layer for most of his working life of over 40 years. Steve was self-employed but also worked for Schuck Homes, Jagoe Homes, and Peters Construction. He enjoyed western movies, playing poker, and horseshoes. Steve loved BBQing and having others over for food and fun together. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather with a big heart.

In addition to his parents, Steve also was preceded in death by two brothers, Mike and Charlie Tong and his sister, Mary Jane Tong.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 51 years, Salley Tong; son, Steve Tong Jr. (Stephanie) of Maceo; daughters, Chrissy Settles (Scott) and Stephanie Tong both of Owensboro; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; three brothers, Wayne Tong, Danny Tong (Regina), and John Slayton Sr.; numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.

The funeral service will be 2:00 pm Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with same day visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Browns Valley.
