Stephen Thomas Wood, 84, of Owensboro, passed away Saturday, March 21, at ContinueCARE Hospital at Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville. He was born October 27, 1941, to the late Stephen and Elizabeth Wood.
Stephen earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and mathematics from Murray State University, a testament to his commitment to learning and intellectual growth. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a distinguished career as an engineer, where he dedicated over 30 years of service to Century Aluminum.
Before dedicating himself to his engineering career, Stephen served honorably in the U.S. Army. As a pilot, he flew bird dogs and the U2 Beaver, demonstrating courage, skill, and a sense of duty that defined his military service. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, where he found fellowship and spiritual nourishment. Stephen had a rich array of interests including history, stamp collecting, and listening to old radios. He was also a previous member of the Owensboro Mineral and Fossil Club, reflecting his lifelong passion for discovery and knowledge.
In addition to his parents, Stephen is preceded in death by his loving wife, Brenda Jean Wood.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Steve Wood (Barbie); granddaughter, Candice “C.C.” Wood; as well as eight nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Stephen will be 2 PM Friday, March 27, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 10 AM until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rosehill Elmwood Cemetery.
