Stephen B. "Steve" Sharp

August 23, 1957 — May 22, 2018

Stephen B. "Steve" Sharp died Tuesday, May 22, 2018. He was 60.

Steve was the loving father of Stephen Sharp, Nathan Sharp (Jenny), Kristin Shrestha (Eric), and Lauren Miller (Ben). He adored his two grandchildren, Eleanor Sharp and Ramsey Miller. His father was Shirley Sharp, and he is survived by his mother, Hilda Ann Sharp. He is also survived by his brother, Randy Sharp (Alicia), and nieces Stephanie Sharp and Jamie Coomes.

Steve was born in Daviess County on August 23, 1957. He grew up in a loving family and liked to joke that "I was the only child...except for my brother." He was involved in sports from an early age and excelled in football at Apollo High School, where he lettered all four years. His favorite childhood memories were sitting around outside his grandmother Sharp's house, talking and telling stories after having a meal as a family. As a child, he also loved taking vacations with his parents and grandparents to visit his grandmother's sisters who lived on top of a mountain in West Virginia. Family was incredibly important to Steve, and he always counted himself fortunate for getting the chance to know 3 of his grandparents.

Steve graduated from Apollo High School in 1975. He went on to receive a B.A. in Political Science from Western Kentucky University in 1979, and he took pride in being an active in alumni for WKU. Steve worked for the majority of his life at the Owensboro Federal Credit Union, where he served as President and CEO from 1989 until he retired in 2017. He took great pride in his work and frequently served as the Chairman of the Kentucky Credit Union League.

Steve enjoyed so many things in life. He was most happy on the beach with his family and friends in New Symrna Beach, FL. He loved to travel, remembering his trip to China in 2014 as his most exciting adventure. He enjoyed cooking and loved comfort foods from his childhood like dumplings, collard greens, and brown beans. Steve had a life-long fascination with Civil War History and looked up to Abraham Lincoln as his personal hero. Classic rock played constantly on his radio, and he imparted his deep appreciation for The Beatles, Neil Young, and Eric Clapton to his children. Throughout his life, he wrote down his own aphorisms and words of wisdom.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 12:00pm to 4:00pm, Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory in Owensboro, KY. Final disposition will be private.
