Stephen D. Schwarzkopf, 67, of Owensboro, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2010 at Owensboro Medical Health System after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on April 8, 1942 in Hartford City, IN to the late Clifford and Vada Alfrey Schwarzkopf. He retired from Brescia University in 2005 and had been attending Newman Baptist Church. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran of the Viet Nam War. Stephen moved to Owensboro in 1995 and, that same year, married Helen Ludlum. He enjoyed watching Nascar, and most sports, was a member of the American Legion, and the Masonic Lodge. He had attended Montpelier High School in Indiana where he graduated in 1960 and attended and graduated from Purdue University.
Surviving are his wife of 14 years, Helen Schwarzkopf, his daughter, Stephanie Butcher and husband Brad of Franklin, TN, stepson, Robert Buchwald and wife Sharon of Edwardsville, IL, a sister, Pamela Shroyer and husband Garry of Hartford City, a brother, Dee Schwarzkopf and wife Carol of Hartford City, two grandchildren, Blake and Tate Butcher, a stepgrandson, Benjamin Buchwald, step granddaughter, Ashley Buchwald, and a step great granddaughter, Aniyah Buchwald.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 29 in the chapel of the Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday and after 8:30 A.M. Friday at the funeral home.
